Look Beautiful! All you need is MONEY

Contestant before and after image taken from that wonderful show "The Swan".
The Swan is a 2004 American reality television program broadcast on Fox in which women who were judged to be 'ugly' were given "extreme makeovers" that included several forms of plastic surgery. Each contestant was assigned a panel of specialists — a coach, therapist, trainer, cosmetic surgeons and a dentist — who together designed a program of total transformation. via
I could rattle off a whole rant on Why the F would there even BE A SHOW LIKE THIS!!??? Why would we teach people that they are ugly until they get plastic surgery, new set of teeth, contacts (or lasik), and a slew of makeup artists? Ug.

Of course, it's now cancelled due to ratings, but I'm scarred for life.

Kitchen Nightmare comes to Cafe Hon!

Am I gonna watch THIS!!!

Image Stolen from City That Breeds
Gordon Ramsay is coming to Cafe Hon to whip it into shape! Yeah. Don't know how this is gonna work, since... oh.... Gordon can be a bit, uh, "confrontational" and Denise is a bit "stubborn". And by confrontational and stubborn I really mean this is gonna be no holds barred, beast vs. beast, all out war!

On the airing date, I'm planning on going to Hon Bar, drink a resurrection, put my feet up and watch the place burn. Gonna be an awesome night!

Liquid Television is BACK! And it's about FREAKIN TIME

Thank you MTV, for FINALLY bringing back the corrupter of my youth: Liquid Television!

Airing online only (no surprise there), a couple shorts from the series are now uploaded HERE.
Usually it aired at the crack of dawn in the 90's, it was always a WHOOPEE! moment when I stumbled on it. (they moved the times around a lot, so you never really knew when it aired...).

This cross-section of warped minds went on to create Beavis and Butthead and Aeon Flux!
Some beauties:

But who knows how long they'll be there, considering they never gave warning the first time!

American Gods on HBO!? For 6 Seasons!!???? Thank Wednesday!!!

Zelu's Deviant Art
Ohboyohboyohboy!!! For those of you that have read Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this is some exciting news!

According to the Hollywood Reporter (via), Tom Hank's is in talks to produce a 6 Season Series of American Gods for HBO! Wooooo! Wikipedia describes American Gods as "a blend ofAmericana, fantasy, and various strands of ancient and modern mythology, all centring on a mysterious and taciturn protagonist, Shadow." Do gods exist if no one believes in them? What if the forgotten Gods have to get jobs like the rest of us?

Who knows if it'll actually go into production, but if Game of Thrones can do it, so can American Gods!
And if you didn't know, I'm a HUGE fan of Neil Gaiman!
(please note the significance of posting this on a Wednesday! )
Thanks for sharing the news Andy!

Fast Film a.k.a. The RIGHT Way to Fold & Animate 65,000 Printouts

According to YouTube:
This was hand made: 65,000 print outs of film frames were folded into 3D objects.

Wow.

P.S. This was highlighted in Larry Lessig's TED Talk: How Creativity is Being Strangled by the Law. A facinating lecture on how the government is creating criminals with their silly intellectual property laws!

Banksy on Simpsons... Including a Unicorn

In case you missed it! In Sept. Bansky directed the opening credits for the Simpsons. No words can describe this political satire.. 'cept maybe "Atta boy!"
Whew! Anyone else surprised with the dark turn of the Simpsons? Will Jeff Koons & his "Made in Heaven" (a.k.a. Porn as Art) be next on the air?

All About Evil was All About Awesome!

In the true form of Midnight Movie Camptastic-arie, "All About Evil" spewed blood and comedy, as only drag queen Peaches Christ can!

I usually don't do "movie reviews" but, after just watching this movie at the Creative Alliance, I felt it was my duty to spread a little praise!

Going in, I knew nothing of Peaches Christ or her Midnight Mass in San Fran. The aeronautically tattooed girl next to me filled me in on the 4-D revelry at those "events" (we're talking live actors and clever antics). Whatever my expectations were, I was not disappointed! We saw dance numbers and characters interacting with the audeinece. And with Peaches (a.k.a. Director Joshua Grannell) being from Maryland and Mink Stole being in attendance, we gave them a hearty Bmore welcome!

The movie itself was camperific. Reminding me of the low-budget films of the 70's, the acting was way over the top! It was funny to see Cassandra Peterson (Elvira!) play a mom (which was a clever inside joke we COMPLETELY missed until they rolled credits). And Natasha Lyonne was hilarious as a complete nut-case inspired by great leading ladies (look for Mae West and Bette Davis as inspirations!).

There were some great scenes about "silencing your cellphones" and Winter-Summer relationships (say what?). All in good fun! We found ourselves bouncing out of there with smiles on our faces. Can't wait to see Peaches next movie. Count me in!

Oh, and by the way, don't drink the kool-aid offered. You'll thank me later!

All About Evil Premier in Bmore!

August 28! Mark it in your calendar! The Creative Alliance is screening the premier of "All About Evil"!

Natasha Lyonne, a "mousy librarian" (is there ever such a thing?), inherits her fathers old movie house "The Victoria". But, as all really cool old movie houses go, it's fallen into deep disarray. In order to save it, Natasha goes on a serial killer rampage, while filming each murder! She then screens the films to her rabid fans! Will the public ever realize the ever-increasing missing actors and the short films are one and the same??!

Did I mention there's a ton of wacky costumes, wigs, and Mink Stole (of John Waters Fame)!?

I bought tix...now, who's coming with me!

Own a Piece of Lost!

Lost doesn't have to end on May 23!
Create your own messed up Island with props from the show!:

Booze it up like Juliet on the Beach! (incidentally...looks only half full...)

My favorite: Dharma First Aid Kit (complete with Chloroform!). Great for my next Lost themed party or Kidnapping!

Faraday's journal with note from his sadistic mommy!

The Profiles in History Lost auction is set for "Summer 2010"... my guess is the date's not set in case the smoke monster escapes into real life!! or rather if the cast members steal the props. Like I would.

Drunk History!

Best FREAKIN Idea EVER!! EVVVVVVVERRR:

Get a history buff to get WASTED and retell an historical event.
THEN! Get a bunch of awesome actors to portray those same events...completely narrated by said drunkard!

The flick above is the retelling of Ben Franklin, played by Jack Black, getting it on with his neighbors fiance. If only history class was like this, I might have paid more attention!

Funny or Die Drunk History consider yourselves DVR'd!

If you had to Hire Mr. Spock or Capt. Kirk...

You'd probably need their Star Trek biz cards!

I found these on the The Rocketeer flickr stream, where he says he bought the set at a Convention in the 80's. Whatever he paid, it's a bargain!

I'm thinking of hiring Kang... I have a need for "wars arranged".
Done and done!
