It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood... Sort of...

First: The Good!
Last weekend we noticed a group of porch loiterers scoping out this adorable old lady knitting her way up the tree. She has a great eye for colors, it totally matches the house AND the budding tree! Oh those crazy Hampden guerilla knitters!

The Bad: WTF!!?? A Tuplip Thief??
Across the street we noticed this angry sign posted in someone's front flower bed. Last season, we too were struck by the garden bandit. They stole 2 gorgeous Purple Flash Ornamental Peppers! Who the F DOES that Crap!??

Other neighborhood shenanigans?

COMIC SANS MUST DIE!!!!

"Ban Comic Sans," illustration by Dave and Holly Combs, 2004

Comic Sans: The bane of a designers existence.
There is no bigger horror to a designer than some big wig saying "Hey! That's great, but could you use Comic Sans instead?"
And then, our heads EXPLODE!
NOOOOO WE CANNOT USE COMIC SANS!!

Comic Sans Blows for these reasons:
1) Um... hello? Does anyone really want "Kid's Script" on their important file?
2) OVERSATURATION! Ug... if I see it one more time...
3) Even my mom recognizes that horrid horrid font... there's no mystery!
4) Designers get seizures looking at it. (It's true!)
5) There's even a great site to ban it!
6) Most Importantly: Those kitchy fonts that come with you computer are NOT to be used by designers in mainstream media! It shows a lack of designer talent & creativity! (I mean, have you seen the other 5 billion fonts you could try?)

Hmm... I can see you may be disagreeing with me. "Oooo, comic sans is great fun!"
Perhaps it's time you read this Wall Street Journal Article about the Comic Sans debate.
Thanks Judy for the hot link!

The Edwardian Ball 2009!

I love all things Edward Gorey!

Considering I've had his house/museum on my list of places to see for yeard now AND my childhood walls were covered with The Gashlycrumb Tinies poster, I'm shocked I'm only finding out about the Edwardian Ball now!
The Edwardian Ball Los Angeles - a splendid San Francisco tradition flies south for the winter, presenting an elegant, turn of the century celebration of music, theatre, dance, circus arts, DJs, ballroom dance, fashion, technology, and of course, the art and stories of Edward Gorey.

2 Questions:

1) Why don't I live in San Fran?
2) How did I not know of this!!!!???

Ahhh shucks, and it's already over. via/link

plagiarism, I didn't even know it still existed!

When I get really bored I go to my favorite blogs, I read them. When I am really really bored I go to my favorite blogs, read them, then go to my bloggers favorite blogs and read them. It's a vicious cycle. So as I was very bored today (I can hear Esti clicking furiously playing what is no doubt some fantastic flash game so she must be in the same boat) I first went to Loppy, then to Jenni, then to Sweet Juniper via Jenni, then to sweet and salty. When I hit Sweet and Salty I got really enveloped in the story, I was plagiarized once in college, I took deep offense to it and was totally pissed but my teacher told me that she would never execute it as well as me and not to worry but to just make myself produce something better because of it, which I did. So anyways, you have got to read this post, it is going to make you mad, and you may laugh too, but regardless go read it and don't forget that plagiarism sucks.

Holy F*cking Chr*st your eating Ant Eggs!

Pardon my Spanish but I feel very strongly about disgusting foods. I eat pretty much everything once, I pride myself in the fact that I have devoured some foods that would make a strong stomached man dry heave at times. Well I can tell you right now that I would not eat a single thing on this list, not a one. Since Esti has been out of the country more than I, I can only assume she has accidentally eaten some ant larva in a taco, Sorry E-Girl. Here care of Jen are the 6 most terrifying foods in the world, brought to you by Cracked.

Things I hate...

Hate is such a strong word, but you know what? sometimes I really just hate stuff. In honor of our regular "Things My boss says" I would like to institute the new regular blog posting: "Things I hate". These things will no doubly be mostly relate to the office but can include anything really, except people I know, famous people don't count, for instance: I hate Cher. Have you seen her hair lately, dear god woman just stop! But here's to my new column if you will, "Things I hate" edition #1.

Things I hate

1. I really hate when I get onto the elevator and the ghostly remnants of someone's perfume are still casually waiting in the elevator for me. I gag and wave my arms around to disperse the cologne of death but it refuses to leave. I can almost guarantee this cloud of noxious scent has been left there by some older, scratch that, ELDERLY woman from the second floor. Why don't you bathe instead of covering up your wrinkly stench with rose oil and witch hazel, is it too much to ask for you to take a shower? You probably have one of those shower seats anyway, making it very easy for you. Don't all old people wake up at four AM anyway, how about you use those five hours before work to clean your holes, but alas. It is never this way. I fear that one day I will board my awaiting elevator and the spirit of someone's white diamonds by Elizabeth Clayborne will come up behind me with it's scented claws of death and choke me out until I am no more. This, is why I hate people who wear too much perfume and take the elevator before me.

Until my next edition of "Things I hate."
