Terminal Bar - Gritty NYC Bar Documentary

Terminal Bar, Stefan Nadelman (2003) from reinadafrica on Vimeo.

From Gil:
Just flipping through some Vimeo stuff I came across one of my all-time favorite short films. This is an unbelievably well-made documentary about a gritty NYC bar seen through thousands of black and white photographs that a bartender took of the patrons. It's a testament to how dynamic something can be when edited and composited really well. Considering that it consists mostly of still images it's amazing:

Get on da bus! The Go-Go thrifty shop bus!

Completely caught off guard to get my picture taken... but Stacy is a natural!
This image from Baltimore Sun
My early Saturday mornings usually consist of not washing my hair, putting on some schlubby clothes and dashing my Etsy goods to the post office unseen by the public. So when, bleary-eyed, Andy and I stumbled down the avenue,  it took a few minutes to register what I was looking at.

This was no fuzzy nightmare of middle school...this was a fantastic school bus filled with thrifty goodies! Swoon!

Now I'm a pretty bouncy person, but the owner, Stacy, completely eclipsed me. Maybe it was because she just quit her day job? (YAY!) or because she had the most adorable puppy-in-a-basket to keep her company!? Either way, I had a great time browsing through the awesomeness. Even Andy enjoyed his time by petting the pooch and adding dry erase graffiti on the ceiling!

Check out the Go-go's Retread Threads bus stop schedule here!

Some other linkies:
Go-go's bus at Honfest! And at Hampdenfest! (How did I miss this!??? Oh wait... I was probably highly intoxicated. Nothing says "Yay Neighborhood" than drinking in public!)

Did I mention I love how random Hampden always seems to be?

Hey Girl, I heard it's Valentine's Day!

Yeah yeah, so I'm early... but this was way too hilarious to pass up!

In case you haven't seen the MEME sensation that is Fuck Yeah, Ryan Gosling, here's a sampling:

Happy Ryan Gosling, er... I mean Early Valentine's Day!

I knew it had to be Liiiies

Well all except the part about addiction, but you can't win them all! I did, however, learn why I cannot drink coffee after 2pm:

"As someone with a background in physics, I was delighted to find out that the amount of caffeine in a person follows a half-life curve. Briefly, if you drink 300mg of caffeine, five hours later there will be 150mg left in your body. Five more hours later there will be 75mg, five more hours 37.5mg and so on."

Check out C.P. Grey's other videos. The one about continents was particularly entertaining as was the one on copyrights.

The Alamo Drafthouse pre-show's have just been killing it! This little gem played before the showing of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (a surprisingly well done movie. yay decent summer movies!). love!

Also, I can't believe how appropriate the "Dance Monkey Dance" tag is on this post...

A Bunch of Crock Posters - heh

Sharply Clever AND Political. Me likey.

Artist Statement From Under Consideration:
Last fall, I began working on a satirical exhibit called A Bunch of Crock. It was a response to the current public discourse and the political landscape in the US. Being a Pakistani immigrant living in Arizona, the last election cycle and the general anti-immigrant rhetoric prevalent at that time was particularly alarming. Going through various campaign ads, I almost felt like the jokes were already written and all I had to do was find a nice bow to put on them.
Displayed in a Phoenix Gallery Dec 2010 - Jan 2011.

More posters where that came from!

Run for your Lives 5k Run!!

After running the Women's Classic 5k, this seems more appropriate...

1. It's a 5k run. Or possibly a 10k run, depending on which route you take.
2. It's also an obstacle course
3. You are chased by Zombies.

I am SO signing up.
Oh, and the girls I work with? Signing up to be Zombies.

Most excellent.

Tomorrow is Etsy Craft Party!

Awww yeah! It's an all out Etsy party across the globe!

From Etsy:
It's time to celebrate! Last year's first-ever global Craft Party was so much fun, we've decided to orchestrate it again this year on Friday, June 10, 2011. No matter where you live or what you love to make, you are invited to participate. Musicians, painters, sculptors, photographers, farmers, hackers, gardeners, designers, jewelers, bookbinders, printmakers, teachers, makers and doers of all stripes, as well as art enthusiasts, curators, vintage lovers and supporters of the independently made, we're calling on you! We challenge you to meet your neighbors and come together to make something surprising.

Me and some craft-time buddies will be at the Baltimore Meetup at MICA - you should come too! (Not to worry if you don't have crafts, Etsy will be supplying some fancy schmancy bmore projects like "funky make-your-own hon glasses"...)

Casualties of War ("Real Life" little Green Army Toys)

Remember these?

How about the real deal:

Made by the people of Dorothy, the "Casualties of War" plastic figurines were intended to publicize the "personal hell soldiers live through after returning home".

Perhaps a Homies mash-up is in their future?

It's got to be Aliens!

A couple nights ago, there was this crazy cloud hanging over Austin. The BF and I thought it totally had to be an alien invasion and we tried to get some pictures. Unfortunately our pics didn't come out so well, but luckily hundreds of other Austinites had the same idea and someone compiled them all in the same place on the internets. It's like hive-mind or something. Check out other pics and experience the alien invasion second hand here.
