Playing Dress the Model in Cosplay... Part 2: Pirate Girl Anne Bonny!

Today's Custom Tailored Booth Babe is ... dun dun dun... Pirate Girl Anne Bonny!:

Uh... and yeah, don't ask me where those black tights came from, because I have no idea! Maybe the model brought them? Hmm...

What I did:
Wow, this was a tough one. There are TONS of things I had to custom on this one. Pirate costumes, exactly how I need them, don't exist!

For example...the boots! Those gold filigrees don't come naturally! After returning some attrocious white go-go boots, I hand painted gold filigrees on to match Jean St. Jean's sketched out vision. (Sketched vision seen below)

On top of that, corsets don't come with buttons and ties like that... nor do boots! So you guessed it... all hand sewn on! The worst part was measuring out where the buttons went. Ruler nightmare!
But the real topper, gold accoutrement's come in all different shades!!! Oh yeah, the gold buttons didn't match the jacket, didn't match the belt buckle, didn't match the cords....I foresaw one big hot mess! And with my slightly perfectionist attitude... ALL GOLD MUST MATCH. Yep. I repainted every single gold bit to match.

End product:

All in all, I'm pretty proud of how this all turned out!

What do you think? (besides the tights. Gawd, those are killing me!!!)

On a side note, since the outfit was based on a black and white sketch, I could pick and choose what colors I wanted for the costume, unexpectedly choosing the colors used on the statue! From now on, I'm calling myself the Pirate Girl Project Manager. You may kiss the ring.

I got to Dress-up Models for Cosplay at SDCC! Part 1: Lil' Red

You heard me right! Yours truly, as part of her job at DST, got to create custom costumes for our Booth Babes at San Diego Comic-Con!! Check it out:

So to promote our newest line of Femme Fatales statues, we hired two models to hand out trading cards, lollipops and temporary tattoos. And I got to dress them!

Today's Booth Babe was based on our statue of Lil' Red!!
(You may remember that fantastic poster I designed from my post here ... minus the hidden message :) )

I'm really proud of how this turned out! And from what I hear, the model rocked it! (really nice and funny to boot!).

A lil' about what I did:
Everything on her was pretty much bought almost exactly how we needed it, except for the bag... Egads did I procrastinate on this one... The bag was made from scratch using gray pleather and a latex wolf mask I painted red eyes on!
Here's a better pic of the pieces assembled:
She was a great hit at the show!! (alas, I was not there to see this in person...we were flying home that day).
But I couldn't be happier!

What do you think? Did I get it pretty close?

Tomorrow's Booth Babe: Pirate Girl Anne Bonny!!

(Thanks to Chris Schaff for taking these awesome pics of the model!)

And We're Back for San Diego Comic-Con!

Okay, we'll, just me. I'm back. So there!
Since I'm notoriously lazy... and my camera is SOOOO far away right now (it's at home, waiting for me to unload the pics), you're just gonna have to look at this until I get out some SDCC shenanigans!

PUZZLE PORN!

Oh yeah... baby, right there. Wha?

Lewd puzzle pieces by Mar Hernández for the XXX site, Private. (site is NSFW... a duh).

Hippie Kitchens or "I know some people who could post here"

Just a few gems. I want to know where the folks in the first one got their furniture, AND the wallpaper. NIFTY! More afternoon delight here.

Btw, has anyone else noticed that all the food blogs are on a lemon kick? Sheesh. Oy. Nom Nom.

Old Spice Motherload

I think I'm in heaven. The Old Spice Man answers fans questions....in a towel.....with rippling pecs and abs....I think I just drooled on my keyboard while giggling like an asian school girl. Check out more videos here. Oh yes, that is a twitter feed, and oh yeah, I am so becoming a follower.

SUV Question...

Why is it that people buy GIANT SUVs, that they can't drive!!!???
If you can't drive it, don't buy it!!!

Granted, it only made me 5 minutes late... but still, nothing angers me more then driving behind some lady, going 5 miles and hour, turning a HUGE RADIUS, to get into a parking spot she has to back out of 3 times to get right.

Sigh.

To make myself feel better, I'm gonna watch my favorite Parking Fail.

Clothing Made in a Bathtub, From Bacteria!

Suzanne Lee, the genius behind BioCouture, grows bacteria in her bathtub that eventually becomes sewable bacterial cellulose!
According to Ecouterre she uses: "a couple of bathtubs, some yeast, a pinch of bacteria, and several cups of sweetened green tea." (Green tea? Who knew I was drinking away the next big thing?)

I got one word... EWWWWWW!
Actually, in the grand sceme of things, this is pretty neat.. :)
Tho, I don't think I'll be wearing it anytime soon...via / link

If only my babysitting days were this entertaining.

Rock on Shrill Gay man, Rock on!

Marie Antoinette Inspriation Revisited

The movie? Eh...
The sets/costumes/eye candy? OMFG!

I just fell upon these pics again, and I couldn't stop staring!
(and no wonder, the photographer is the great Annie Leibovitz)

I'd say I wouldn't mind living in this era, but the idea of passing out from tight corsets and using a commode disturbs me greatly.

Here's the Vogue Spread (and here as actual scanned in pages!) and MAWR!

Lil Red Gets a Photoshop Makeover

I've been busy at work!
My mission, as I obvs. accepted = Use LOADS of Photoshop to make the "Little Red" sculpture look interesting!(the original here and on the left)

Photoshopping them actually took me WAY longer than I expected, say a couple hours straight? I'm still seeing cross-eyed. The worst part was making the hair look "real"... let's just say my "Smudging" tool is worn out to nubbins!

Extras:
- These'll printed onto trading cards at SDCC! I'm a collectible! (sort of)

- Lil Red in the Alley is based off of this amazing tutorial: psd tutsplus
- And Blogged on Art Asylum here and here.
- I added a little hidden something to Little Red in the Alley! :)
