Terminal Bar - Gritty NYC Bar Documentary

Terminal Bar, Stefan Nadelman (2003) from reinadafrica on Vimeo.

From Gil:
Just flipping through some Vimeo stuff I came across one of my all-time favorite short films. This is an unbelievably well-made documentary about a gritty NYC bar seen through thousands of black and white photographs that a bartender took of the patrons. It's a testament to how dynamic something can be when edited and composited really well. Considering that it consists mostly of still images it's amazing:

Wes Anderson Bingo!

Yeah... when you read it - looks like it will be SUPER easy to win!
Totally bringing this to his film... via

Reminds me of the Bingo card I made for the Secret Life of Bees. Did I mention I didn't see the film first?
Everyone was too weepy to play! :(

State Home for Manic Pixie Dream Girls!

Uh... I eat pancakes for dinner...and sometimes listen to the Smiths......... Please don't institutionalize me!

Don't know about this trope?
Best examples:
Natalie Portman as Sam in Garden State
Kirsten Dunst as Claire Colburn in Elizabethtown
Kate Winslet as Clementine from Eternal Sunshine
Oh heck. And more here!

Decpticon Engagement Ring.. aka are you trying to tell me something?

Still pretty awesome tho!

The setting of this ring was custom made for a customer using our 3Design CAD CAM software and cast in 14k white gold.
If you ask me, she should take a REAL good look at the fiance! You don't wanna get stuck changing oil diapers later on...

It's Inconceivable!

Damn you Drafthouse! You're so awesome but so far away!

For Valentines, the Alamo Drafthouse is hosting a "Quote-Along & Feast" of the Princess Bride! (A movie, I can assure you, I can quote by heart). Best part? These clever bastards will have "Princess Bride Battle of Wits Bottle of Wine!"

I hope it comes with blindfolds and two glasses... because both glasses will be poisoned, since I spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder.

Brickhut Movie Posters - Getting to the Crux

My new favorite blog!
Brickhut.. where movie posters are boiled down to the important bits.
I like to play the game of "Can I guess the movie before I read the title?" Really brilliant design!

The Alamo Drafthouse pre-show's have just been killing it! This little gem played before the showing of Rise of the Planet of the Apes (a surprisingly well done movie. yay decent summer movies!). love!

Also, I can't believe how appropriate the "Dance Monkey Dance" tag is on this post...

Amelie Styled Wedding!

Amélie, a whimsical movie directed by the hugely talented Jean-Pierre Jeunet, is all about finding true love in the magical land of Paris! So how wonderfully clever to design a Amélie inspired wedding!

Kudos as this is probably as close to living IN Amélie as you can get!

Kids! Go be an Astronaut! - Beef & Pie "Our Sputnik Moment"

"Our Sputnik Moment" from Beef and Pie on Vimeo.

For the previous generation, exploring space was key! Many remember the celestial beeps from when Russia first launched Sputnik into the sky - and the subsequent American push to compete in the Space Race! Teachers in that time "suggested" students learn Math! Or Science! Or Engineering! Go forward!
Leading to NASA and our own space nerds!

But alas, with the privatization of NASA who knows what will happen with America's Space Race...

So with the marking of today's final flight of the Space Shuttle Endeavor, Beef & Pie Productions marks the passage with a mini-series: Richard Garriott Presents.

As Beef & Pie suggests, pour yourself a glass of Tang and vodka and enjoy.

MegaShark - DEATH IN THE SKIES! (infographic)

Has anyone seen this?:

From the "worstest" movie ever made! Seriously, being the stupid movies lover that I am, I had to watch Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (don't judge! It had Sharks fighting Octopuses... staring the best teeny-bop singer turned actress: Deborah Gibson!! Seriously, how can you turn away?).

The internets were abuzz over that show stopping scene! In fact, they created an infographic over the staggering physics needed for a MEGA shark to LEAP into the air with enough force to SNATCH and EAT an unsuspecting passenger airplane - OUT OF THE AIR!!! Apparently Mr. Mega Shark had to be traveling at 702 Mph to complete that feat!

Oh to be a passenger looking out the window into the gullet of a Mega Shark.
Thanks to Brian for the infographic reminiscing!

Nicolas Cage Infographic/Matrix

Along the same lines as the Coengraphic....

Personally, I think more should go in rubbish... but that's just me!

(oh! And how about Nic Cage and a Monkey? or Character Alignment from the Big Lebowski?)
