Bmore is Hipster Heaven!

Well, okay, maybe No. 24 in all of America - but it mentions Hampden! Woo!

From Travel and Leisure:
No. 24 Baltimore
The Station North area has long been the city’s arts district, but you might find more of Baltimore’s quirkiness around Hampden. It’s the site of bar Rocket to Venus, shoe-and-chocolate emporium Ma Petite Shoe, and Atomic Books, where veteran hipster and filmmaker John Waters picks up his fan mail.
P.S. Number 1 is too Mainstream.

Etsy Headquarters, Oh my!

Etsy's NY Headquarters is showcased on Bloomberg Businessweek.
where they liken it to a "Nursery School for Adults". Yes please!

P.S. Read the comments on their page. Interesting stuff voicing opposing views on Etsy. Maybe Etsy will start listening?

Sometimes You Gotta Love TX

I've found that Texans have this incredible ability to insult you to your face but do it in a way that makes them sound like they are just full of sugar and honey. It's a neat trick that I, as an original eastcoasty, secretly covet. Anyway, I just found the most incredible example of just this. Check out this story about a little brewpub in San Antonio, TX, that one day received a cease & desist letter in the mail..

Kitchen Nightmare comes to Cafe Hon!

Am I gonna watch THIS!!!

Image Stolen from City That Breeds
Gordon Ramsay is coming to Cafe Hon to whip it into shape! Yeah. Don't know how this is gonna work, since... oh.... Gordon can be a bit, uh, "confrontational" and Denise is a bit "stubborn". And by confrontational and stubborn I really mean this is gonna be no holds barred, beast vs. beast, all out war!

On the airing date, I'm planning on going to Hon Bar, drink a resurrection, put my feet up and watch the place burn. Gonna be an awesome night!

Good Deed of the Day: Knit Some Penguin Sweaters!

With the New Zealand oil spill (is there like one every month???), these adorable little cuties need your help!
According to Snopes: Often the little penguins are far too ill to be bathed right away, and scrubbing can be quite stressful. The solution is to slip the oil-coated birds into wool sweaters, which prevent them from preening themselves and possible swallowing toxic petroleum-based oil as they regain needed strength, and keep them warm until their bodies are once again producing the natural oils (removed by the cleaning) necessary to their insulation.

No seriously. If Snopes says it's real... You gotta BELIEVE in the Power of the Penguins!
So get to it! Here's a link to a penguin sweater knitting pattern (from Skeinz)

How can you say no to a penguin in a tuxedo sweater!!??? via / via Andy!

Liquid Television is BACK! And it's about FREAKIN TIME

Thank you MTV, for FINALLY bringing back the corrupter of my youth: Liquid Television!

Airing online only (no surprise there), a couple shorts from the series are now uploaded HERE.
Usually it aired at the crack of dawn in the 90's, it was always a WHOOPEE! moment when I stumbled on it. (they moved the times around a lot, so you never really knew when it aired...).

This cross-section of warped minds went on to create Beavis and Butthead and Aeon Flux!
Some beauties:

But who knows how long they'll be there, considering they never gave warning the first time!

Parents Use Cursive as Secret Language Kids Can't Read

Why? Because Indiana has decided Cursive is no longer necessary to teach in schools.
So who's gonna be able to read crappy tattoos now?!?!

Billions found in Newly Discovered Ancient Temple! (Tomb Raiders Beware)

No word of how this $22B Temple was "discovered", but apparently there were amazing secret vaults and chambers - enough to make Indiana Jone and Lara Croft weep with jealousy!

And no mentions of booby traps, mummies or other EEEEEVVVILLL mysteries from the beyond!
But the eeeeviiill Fox New summed it up nicely:
... tens of billions of dollars worth of treasures just discovered in a popular 16th-century Hindu temple in southern India -- even as the trove of newly revealed riches continues growing.

Inside the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, investigators were counting the staggering hoard of gold coins and statues of gods and goddesses studded with diamonds and other precious stones. Outside, small groups of armed policemen patrolled the temple grounds in the heart of the Kerala state capital, Trivandrum.
The article was just published yesterday on Fox News, so who knows if I can *really* trust it, but dear god, if this is true...

American Gods on HBO!? For 6 Seasons!!???? Thank Wednesday!!!

Zelu's Deviant Art
Ohboyohboyohboy!!! For those of you that have read Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this is some exciting news!

According to the Hollywood Reporter (via), Tom Hank's is in talks to produce a 6 Season Series of American Gods for HBO! Wooooo! Wikipedia describes American Gods as "a blend ofAmericana, fantasy, and various strands of ancient and modern mythology, all centring on a mysterious and taciturn protagonist, Shadow." Do gods exist if no one believes in them? What if the forgotten Gods have to get jobs like the rest of us?

Who knows if it'll actually go into production, but if Game of Thrones can do it, so can American Gods!
And if you didn't know, I'm a HUGE fan of Neil Gaiman!
(please note the significance of posting this on a Wednesday! )
Thanks for sharing the news Andy!

Osama's watery grave captured! -

Yeah... not really sure how I feel about this one.

- On the one hand, really clever use of breaking news!
- On the other hand... uh...is this tasteless? Should I be ashamed of the portrayal of America?

Also... I'm a little impressed with how FAST they made this ad, considering it was only last week the news broke of Osama's death.

As of Last Thursday... "HON" is trademarked...

Hey Hon!

If you're at all familiar with Hamdpen, you're familiar with "our" colloquial term: Hon!
As in...

These are Hons:

This is Cafe Hon:
And this is Denise Whiting, the owner of Cafe Hon...
Who just trademarked the three magic letters h-o-n.
So now anytime Baltimore, MTA, or really any non-profit wants to use the term "Welcome to Baltimore, Hon!" They now owe to the lady!

Smart financial move? Or has she finally gone too far?
(she's already on a Bmore s*** list for the flamingo shenanigans)

I plan on Trademarking "Hi there!" and "Sweetie!"
Don't be a hater cause you didn't think of it first.

Crap...does this mean since I used "hon" in my post, I owes royalties to Denise?

Corrupt Politian Slinging Pizza at Tov Pizza!

Ahh... the spiraling celebrity downfall. Or in this case a corrupt politician.

Jack Abramoff, accused of defrauding Indian tribes out of "tens of millions of dollars", has come to Baltimore! Why? Something about a half-way house? But if you enjoy looks of disdain and shunning, I suggest celebrity stalking at the VERY orthodox Tov's Pizza.Just make sure you're fully covered...better yet, if you're a chick, send in a man instead.

(or am I getting this place confused with the shunning at Caramel's Pizza?)

X-Ray Proves Dog ate Toys Cats!

Snowy, a dog in the UK, was having some stomach problems (not eating and getting sick). So her owner, Samantha, took Snowy to the vet, where they ran some tests.

What did they find? 5 little toy cats inside Snowy's stomach!

Samantha said: ‘I was shocked when the vets phoned to say Snowy had swallowed a few cats. I thought they meant real ones!’

The five cats included a father cat, mum and three kittens.

And the best X-ray ever!
