The Typeface LOVE Connection!
Please, fonts have feelings too you know! They also have personalities.
(Except for Comic Sans and Papyrus - they are each dumb as bricks).
So what happens when a font gets lonely?
Enter the Type Connection! As her final thesis for a M.F.A. from MICA, Aura Seltzer designed an online dating game for typefaces!
From her site:
Type Connection is an online game that helps users learn how to pair typefaces. Like a conventional dating website, Type Connection presents potential “dates” for well-known, workhorse typefaces. Users are matchmakers. They decide what kind of match to look for by choosing among several strategies for combining typefaces.Brilliant! The accompanying exhibit is now closed, but the website is still up.
Help out some wanting typefaces!
And here's the story behind the project at Felt & Wire!

Get on da bus! The Go-Go thrifty shop bus!

| Completely caught off guard to get my picture taken... but Stacy is a natural! |

| This image from Baltimore Sun |
This was no fuzzy nightmare of middle school...this was a fantastic school bus filled with thrifty goodies! Swoon!
Now I'm a pretty bouncy person, but the owner, Stacy, completely eclipsed me. Maybe it was because she just quit her day job? (YAY!) or because she had the most adorable puppy-in-a-basket to keep her company!? Either way, I had a great time browsing through the awesomeness. Even Andy enjoyed his time by petting the pooch and adding dry erase graffiti on the ceiling!
Check out the Go-go's Retread Threads bus stop schedule here!
Some other linkies:
Go-go's bus at Honfest! And at Hampdenfest! (How did I miss this!??? Oh wait... I was probably highly intoxicated. Nothing says "Yay Neighborhood" than drinking in public!)
Did I mention I love how random Hampden always seems to be?

Chewable Guinness Car-bombs? Are your freaking kidding me!?
Recipe completely stolen from Endless Simmer -
Ingredients?
I want these in my mouth now.
Ingredients?
- 16 oz. Guinness Stout beer, divided use
- 5 envelopes of Knox gelatin, divided use
- 3oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream
- 3oz. Jameson Irish Whiskey
Yes, car-bombs solidify by themselves - but look past all that!
Look at the glimmer of the two greatest things ever!

It's Inconceivable!
Damn you Drafthouse! You're so awesome but so far away!
For Valentines, the Alamo Drafthouse is hosting a "Quote-Along & Feast" of the Princess Bride! (A movie, I can assure you, I can quote by heart). Best part? These clever bastards will have "Princess Bride Battle of Wits Bottle of Wine!"
I hope it comes with blindfolds and two glasses... because both glasses will be poisoned, since I spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder.

National Pinball Museum is Open for Business!
After relocating from Georgetown and months of waiting, the greatness has happened!
The National Pinball Museum Grand Opening is Today!
Where you can bask in the greatness of the best pinball machine there ever was: Addams Family! You know what I'm talking about. Thing that jumps out and grabs the ball? The Electric Chair? The "Oh, Gomez"? The crazy setup? Excellent.
They've got others, but who cares about Avatar Pinball. Can I dig for unobtainium? No? Not interested.
But can you hear the choir? Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Mr. Alamo Drafthouse Goes to Washington!
DiG just sent me over the good news!
Alamo Drafthouse is planning on opening a location in DC!
Huzzah!
We love them because:
b) They sometimes do a Rolling Roadshow, like the Dusk till Dawn Bad Taste John Water's Marathon in Bmore!
A bit about them from their site:
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas provides a unique combination of theatre and restaurant, showing first-run & independent films and special programming events with an extensive menu made from scratch in a state-of-the-art culinary kitchen. Customers order all food and drinks from servers who quietly attend to them throughout the movie. Handcrafted, specialty beers are available on tap, including The Drafthouse’s own signature ale brewed locally.
Customers are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the pre-show entertainment. Instead of a barrage of advertising, a pre-show of rare and hilarious clips are shown that change on a regular basis, often tailored specifically to the feature film. The pre-show adds to the overall Alamo experience where patrons can look forward to arriving early to catch it.
This is THE place to visit in Austin, where Weird Al, Elvira and Broken Lizard regularly visit and the Butt-Numb-A-Thon is held each year!

What's more religious than a corned beef sandwich? - Happy Food Coma day!
It's true! Jews love food! (Well, who doesn't?).
So, in honor of the Pilgrims chowing down, we thought we would share our traditions as well. In fact, there's a whole exhibit of Jewish food at the Jewish Museum of Maryland... with a few familiar faces!
A few months ago, there was a call to the community for photos and memories of your food "recollections". Good thing our family has it's own paparazzi in my Uncle Howard! With his trusty archive of 100 years worth of photos, he practically filled the whole exhibit with our family photos (eating of course)!
From their site:
Chosen Food: Cuisine, Culture and American Jewish Identity examines the diversity of Jewish eating and uncovers the messages in our meals. It shows how the foods we choose to eat speak volumes about who we are.Above are a smattering of photos around the exhibit...with some notable highlights! (Yours truly and her family!). The photos above were all taken by Howard (except where he is posing, and those were taken by his wife, Barbara)
Enjoy! And hope your food traditions include tasty-ness all day!

Boffo + Irene Neuwirth + Theverymany = Gilded Popup Store!
Photos from October's temporary shop for jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth! I wish I would have seen it, but I'm sure if I was there, I would either
a) trip on something and crash everything down
b) stare so hard in amazement that I would burn holes in things with my eyes
c) or be so fascinated, the drool from my open mouth would short-circuit something.
Basically, it's a good thing I wasn't there... but I'm sure these photos aren't doing it justice!!
Designed by Marc Fornes/THEVERYMANY for BOFFO!

Liquid Television is BACK! And it's about FREAKIN TIME
Thank you MTV, for FINALLY bringing back the corrupter of my youth: Liquid Television!
Airing online only (no surprise there), a couple shorts from the series are now uploaded HERE.
Usually it aired at the crack of dawn in the 90's, it was always a WHOOPEE! moment when I stumbled on it. (they moved the times around a lot, so you never really knew when it aired...).
This cross-section of warped minds went on to create Beavis and Butthead and Aeon Flux!
Some beauties:
But who knows how long they'll be there, considering they never gave warning the first time!
